This is a Research based Program.
Students in the Ph.D. program will be required to complete an oral comprehensive examination within the first twelve months following admission into the Ph.D. program. The examination will take the form of a ten to a twenty-minute presentation of the student's research work to date, followed by a question and answer session in which the student's depth of knowledge of the field of research and the underlying chemical and/or biochemical principles will be examined.
Each candidate will take a final oral examination in defense of the dissertation on the recommendation of the doctoral committee.

Additional Requirements
- Graduate Record Examination (GRE) is required for applicants graduating from universities outside North America
- Course Work: Candidates must complete successfully at least six courses, including CHEM-9900 (or three courses if the candidate enters the program with an MSc degree) chosen from the available graduate offerings in the student's field or from related and cognate courses, with the approval of the Program Committee. The student may be required to take additional courses, as stipulated by the student's Doctoral committee
