Develop fundamental skills in art and design in order to progress into further 3rd Level study. Our Art and Design foundation course is an interdisciplinary programme that introduces the learner to a broad range of areas in the discipline of Art & Design.

  • Our one-year Level 6 Art and Design foundation course introduces the learner to a variety of areas in art, design and communication. The course is an excellent foundation for any Level 8 design award, introducing a broad range of design disciplines in Animation, Ceramics, Fashion, Graphic Design, Illustration, Interior Design/Architecture, Photography and Video, Textile Design and Silk Screen Printing before students choose their pathway.
  • The key abilities contributing to success in the programme are creativity in design, competence in communication in a variety of media, an ability to draw with a technical understanding and organisation. Griffith's art courses in Dublin draw in candidates that have a keen interest in the cultural and social factors in design, creative expression and innovation with a capacity for both independent work and teamwork.

The purpose of this award is to:

  • Foster the student’s creativity through exploration and experimentation and develop a broad range of Art and Design skills.
Offer students own study pathways, thorough project electives in Interior Design/Architecture, Fashion Design, Graphic Design and Illustration and Animation.
Create an Art and Design Portfolio required for further study pathway progression to Level 8 BA (Hons) programme.
