  • Our short 16-month course will help you examine key areas including; microbiology, immunology, public health and communicable disease control. You’ll understand how infections occur and how different micro-organisms act and spread.

  • The science of identifying and isolating pathogenic organisms to assist in the diagnosis, management and treatment of patients
  • The scientific concepts underpinning infection control and prevention
  • The impact of infectious diseases and their control in a variety of settings
  • Upon completion of your Postgraduate Diploma (awarded after 120 credits) we offer the opportunity for you to progress to study for a full Masters (awarded after 180 credits).

  • We know that many people from non-traditional backgrounds would succeed on our courses! That’s why we offer two different entry routes, taking into account your prior work experience and relevant qualifications. You will also need to meet our English language requirements.
  • Additionally, you will need to pass your first assignment set within your two-week induction period of the course in order to continue with your studies.

Academic entry route
In order to satisfy the academic entry route requirements for our PG Dip Infection Control, you must have the following qualifications as a minimum:

  • An undergraduate degree from an approved institution, equivalent to a UK Honours degree, or a relevant professional qualification

Work experience entry route
In order to satisfy the work experience entry route requirements for our PG Dip Infection Control, you must meet the following criteria:

  • At least 3 years’ post-registration experience in a relevant field, supported by appropriate references

English language requirements

  • As our courses are delivered in English, a high proficiency with English is required. If English is not your first language, your English ability should be equivalent to an IELTS (Academic) score of 6.5.
  • Don’t worry if you don’t hold an IELTS or equivalent qualification – we offer a free online English test to assess your proficiency.
  • You don’t need to prove your English ability if you are a national of, or have completed a qualification equivalent to a UK degree
  • The PG Dip Infection Control is made up of the following modules and, upon completion, is equal to a total of 120 credits at Level 7.

Level 7 modules:

  • Introduction to Medical Microbiology and Immunology (20 credits)
  • Communicable Disease Control (20 credits)
  • Infection Prevention and Quality Improvement (20 credits)
  • Research Methods (20 credits)
  • Two optional modules**:
  • Advanced Practice in Healthcare (20 credits)
  • Health Promotion (20 credits)
  • Epidemiology (20 credits)

* These modules are core and must be passed in order to achieve the award.

** In addition to the core modules, students will take two optional modules.

  • Upon completion of your Postgraduate Diploma (awarded after 120 credits) we offer the opportunity for you to progress to study for a full Masters (awarded after 180 credits).

Full payment discount

  • When paying for your undergraduate or postgraduate course up-front, we’ll offer you a discount of 10% for students starting their course in the 2020-21 academic year, and 5% for students starting their course in the 2021-22 academic year.

 Alumni discount 

  • If you are a previous graduate with the University of Essex or University of Essex Online, we’ll award you a 10% alumni discount on your postgraduate tuition fees when you continue your studies to Masters level. This is only applicable to students studying online and does not apply to students studying on campus. 
  • The Alumni discount cannot be used in combination with the International scholarship.

Scholarships

  • International scholarship (all courses) International students residing in specific regions outside of the UK may be eligible for a partial scholarship for our undergraduate and postgraduate online courses.
