Fundamentally, the role of international business law is to legislate various commercial activities when trading between one country (and their laws) and another.
  • Understanding this complex area of law is indispensable for any aspiring business lawyer or any legally-minded international commercial manager.

This course will explore the key elements of international business, while optional modules allow you to modify the course content to your career goals and interests. The key topics within the course include:

  • The general principles of transnational contract law
  • The remit, procedures and operation of the World Trade Organisation
  • competition law and how it is implemented at a national and international level
  • You will develop skills in critical thinking, time management and research skills alongside important legal knowledge. After finishing your PG Dip, you can continue on to our full LLM International Business Law.

  • We know that many people from non-traditional backgrounds would succeed on our courses! That’s why we offer two different entry routes, taking into account your prior work experience and relevant qualifications. You will also need to meet our English language requirements.
  • Additionally, you will need to pass your first assignment set within your two-week induction period of the course in order to continue with your studies.

Academic entry route
In order to satisfy the academic entry route requirements for our PG Dip International Business Law, you must have the following qualifications as a minimum:

  • An undergraduate degree from an approved institution, equivalent to a UK Honours degree, or a relevant professional qualification

Work experience entry route
In order to satisfy the work experience entry route requirements for our PG Cert International Business Law, you must meet the following criteria:

  • At least five years’ senior level work experience

English language requirements

  • As our courses are delivered in English, a high proficiency with English is required. If English is not your first language, your English ability should be equivalent to an IELTS (Academic) score of 6.5. Don’t worry if you don’t hold an IELTS or equivalent qualification – we offer a free online English test to assess your proficiency.
  • You don’t need to prove your English ability if you are a national of, or have completed a qualification equivalent to a UK degree
  • The PG Dip International Business Law is made up of the following modules and, upon completion, is equal to a total of 120 credits.

Level 7 modules:

  • International Business Law (20 credits)
  • Law of the World Trade Organization (20 credits)
  • International Competition Law (20 credits)
  • Legal Research Skills and Methods (20 credits)

Two optional modules:

  • Commerical Conflict of Laws (20 credits)
  • Intellectual Property Law (20 credits)
  • International Commercial Arbitration Dispute Resolution (20 credits)
  • Upon completion of your PG Dip International Business Law we offer the opportunity for you to progress to study our LLM International Buisness Law (180 credits).

  • When paying for your undergraduate or postgraduate course up-front, we’ll offer you a discount of 10% for students starting their course in the 2020-21 academic year, and 5% for students starting their course in the 2021-22 academic year. 

Alumni discount

  • If you are a previous graduate with the University of Essex or University of Essex Online, we’ll award you a 10% alumni discount on your postgraduate tuition fees when you continue your studies to Masters level. This is only applicable to students studying online and does not apply to students studying on campus. 
  • The Alumni discount cannot be used in combination with the International scholarship.

 Scholarships

  • International scholarship (all courses) International students residing in specific regions outside of the UK may be eligible for a partial scholarship for our undergraduate and postgraduate online courses.
