This is a Research based Program.

The main goal of the PhD program in Kinesiology is to allow students interested in the Movement Science or Socio-cultural aspects of Kinesiology to develop excellence in designing, conducting and disseminating research knowledge to the broader community including: the workplace; sport, teaching, and leisure environments; and exercise physical activity and rehabilitation settings.

Program Specific Admission Requirements

  • Deadline for Fall: February 1. Applications received after the deadline will undergo review until the program is full.

  • 4 Year honours degree in a related field
  • Minimum TOEFL: IBT-100
  • Minimum IELTS: (7.0 - no individual band lower than 6.0 for PhD)
  • Minimum Pearson: 68
  • Minimum MELAB: 85
  • Minimum CAEL: 70

Additional Requirements

  • M.H.K: Two Academic References. Please also complete the supplementary admission form and statement interest
  • Ph.D.: Three References (two academic), Resume/CV, Letter indicating proposed field of study, a sample of written work, a personal statement of interest

PhD in Kinesiology

Degree Requirements
Total courses: A minimum of 4 courses
(a) All students must complete the following 3-credit courses and a dissertation for successful completion of
the degree:

  • KINE-9920. Independent Study
  • KINE-9698. Community Internship
  • KINE-9950. Doctoral seminar (must register for 6 terms)
  • Minimum of one additional graduate level course]

(b) Students must have graduate level competency in statistics and/or research design. Depending on graduate level courses taken at the Master’s level, students may be asked to complete either KINE-8070
(Quantitative Analysis in Kinesiology) or KINE-8620 (Research Methods), or their equivalent.
