Law and business are two of the most transferable subjects you can study, and this short online course introduces you to essential topics within both.
You will study modules including:
- Civil and criminal aspects of the English Legal System
- The role of constitutional and administrative law and their related issues
- The internal and external environments that affect businesses
- You will also be able to tailor your studies with a range of optional modules. This course allows you to go on to study a full Bachelors degree, or to take your new legal and commercial understanding to apply it in a range of roles.
- Alongside your new knowledge you will develop key skills in time management, critical thinking and research that will round out your CV and make you a more competitive candidate in whichever field you seek employment.

- We believe that education should be accessible for everyone. That’s why we offer an open entry route – meaning you don’t need any prior academic or work experience in order to start studying with us. You will also need to meet our English language requirements.
- You will need to pass your first assignment set within the first three weeks of the course in order to continue with your studies.
English language requirements
- As our courses are delivered in English, a high proficiency with English is required. If English is not your first language, your English ability should be equivalent to an IELTS (Academic) score of 6.0. Don’t worry if you don’t hold an IELTS or equivalent qualification – we offer a free online English test to assess your proficiency.
- You don’t need to prove your English ability if you are a national of, or have completed a qualification equivalent to a UK degree
- The CertHE Law with Business is made up of the following modules and, upon completion, is equal to a total of 120 credits.
Level 4 modules:
- Legal Skills and Context (30 credits)
- Criminal Law (30 credits)
- Public Law (30 credits)
- Business Environment (15 credits)
One optional module:
- Business and Management Skills (15 credits)
- Fundamentals of Marketing (15 credits)
- Human Resource Management (15 credits)
- Introduction to Finance (15 credits)
* These modules are core and must be passed in order to achieve the award.
- Upon completion of your CertHE Law with Business we offer the opportunity for you to progress to study for a Bachelors degree (360 credits).

Full payment discount
- When paying for your undergraduate or postgraduate course up-front, we’ll offer you a discount of 10% for students starting their course in the 2020-21 academic year, and 5% for students starting their course in the 2021-22 academic year.
Alumni discount
- If you are a previous graduate with the University of Essex or University of Essex Online, we’ll award you a 10% alumni discount on your postgraduate tuition fees when you continue your studies to Masters level.
- This is only applicable to students studying online and does not apply to students studying on campus. The Alumni discount cannot be used in combination with the International scholarship.
