Term 1: During your first term, you will learn: the structure and inner workings of the music industry (e.g., key players, flow of money, current trends, etc.); how to successfully start and run a business within the music industry; how to produce and promote a concert (e.g., equipment, contracts with artists, venue selection, licenses and permits, etc.); as well as understand the important laws related to intellectual property and contracts within the music industry.
Term 2: you will learn: the music production process in a professional studio with a real band; the foundations of marketing (e.g., market analysis, SWOT, defining a target market, etc.); social media fundamentals; as well as how to effectively plan and manage an artist’s career.
Term 3: In your final term, you will learn: how to effectively market an artist and related products online (e.g., setting up a website, playlisting, email strategy, etc.); the more traditional—but still widely-used—promotion tactics for artists and music releases (e.g., publicity, guerilla marketing, release parties, etc.); important management, communication, and leadership skills to successfully run a business in the music industry; as well as all of the most important legal and practical aspects of music publishing (e.g., song registration, contracts, licensing, etc.).
